On this day, we celebrate the feast of the nine orders of the heavenly angelic beings: Angels, Guardian Angels, Archangels, Thrones, Powers, Principalities, Dominions, Cherubim, and Seraphim.

The feast commemorates the prehistoric event of when some of the angels, led by Satan, rebelled against God and were cast out of heaven, and thus became demons. The angels who remained loyal to God, led by the Archangel Michael, comprise the nine orders of the heavenly host.
